About Igniready
Our theme
A fire in the heart, readiness in your hands.
Our mission
We turn the urge to try into readiness you learn with your hands and body, linking camping, preparedness, outdoor food, and fitness through guidance from public agencies and expert bodies, and what we have practiced and learned ourselves.
Who it's for
Families starting to prepare, campers from first trip to seasoned, parents who want their kids outdoors, people who help their communities prepare, and anyone building a body that can move when it matters.
What you'll find here
- Steps and numbers checked against public agencies and expert bodies, each with the date we checked it.
- What we have practiced and learned ourselves, with our own suggestions labeled as ours.
- Calculators you can run with your own numbers.
- The link between everyday life and emergencies, shown on every article in an "Everyday / When it counts" box.
- Notes on gear we have actually used, and only that gear.
- How households in Japan, a country that plans for earthquakes and typhoons, prepare, and how that compares with U.S. guidance.
What we don't do
- We don't write up gear we haven't used or steps we haven't tried. No invented experiences, credentials, or reviews.
- No "ultimate" or "all you need" claims without evidence. Rankings aren't for sale. Paid links are always labeled.
- We don't sell fear, and we don't ride on disasters with posts or ads.
- Reading isn't training: for first aid, self-defense, and fire, we point you to hands-on courses.
- We don't diagnose or treat illness or injury.
- We take no political or religious positions, including on national defense or firearms.
Where the name comes from
The name joins the Latin ignis (fire) and the English ready. To Roman poets, ignis was not only the fire you cook on, but also a fire of passion and inspiration that burns inside. Igniready is about both: the hands-on skill of making fire, and the spark that makes you want to try, so you're ready when it counts.

Japanese edition
The Japanese edition (igniready.com) and this site are not translations of each other. The Japanese edition is written separately for readers in Japan, from Japanese public guidance. Where both cover the same topic, some articles link to the other edition.
Who runs it
Igniready is run by Igniready, from Japan. We keep learning by camping and taking part in preparedness activities ourselves, and we write so that you can judge each page by its sources and content rather than by a title. Reach us through the contact form.
